A boy who is orphaned when his mother dies starts living with his aunt in Bangalore, but is treated badly. One day, he escapes to the big city of Mumbai. The film grossed 6.5crore in India alone. Shekhar Kapur, who is known for directing movies like Bandit Queen, Chor Machaye Shor, Border and Deewar, had wanted to make a movie on Sunil Shetty's life for awhile now. He had done some research on him and decided to direct the movie based on his story. After meeting Shetty he had written a scenario with him opting him to star in the movie initially under some other character names but later decided not to do so leaving him with no option but to accept it. The movie marked the reunion of Nana Patekar and Sunil Shetty after a gap of 14 years since their last film together. The director Shekhar Kapur who is known for his aesthetically crafted films explained the concept behind the making of the film. The producer Vashu Bhagnani wanted to make a movie as he felt Shetty’s life was like a blotch on society and goes on to explain how 'Rajan' (Nana Patekar) would be unveiled as someone with no feelings for anyone not even his own family, including his brother 'Giri' (Sunil Shetty). Kapur feels the character is highly inspired by none other than Al Capone. Kapur explains, “In the end, that’s what the story becomes about. Who is Rajan? Is he a bad guy or a good guy?” The movie was shot in Bulgaria. In order to get Nana Patekar back on board for this movie, Sunil Shetty had to pay him 5crore as a advance while taking care of all the expenses of his foreign trip and during his stay at Bulgaria he also had to stay in a hotel at a cost of 10,000 per day while shooting for over 4 months in Bulgaria. cfa1e77820
